WHAT ARE YOU MADE OF?

I want to help you become the best version of you!
But what are you made of?
What percentage of you is lean tissue and what percentage of you is fat?
Optimum body composition is more important and relevant to your health than your Body Mass Index. Read what Diabetes.co.uk have to say here.

You do not simply want to lose weight… what you really want is to lose excess body fat.
And possibly also put on lean tissue at the same time.

But how much excess do you have?

Let’s find out.
We start by measuring where you are now with the Body Stat Device.

Maybe you are starting your journey at 50%, 40%, 30% body fat.
And you might have no idea what you would like to get down to.

It depends on your age, height, lifestyle, health, ambition and so on.
Having said that, if I took an average of the last 40 clients I measured, the recommended ranges were approximately as follows:

Men healthy range 13-19%
Women healthy range 21-27%

Clients who are more aesthetically driven (rather than health driven) would be aiming for lower percentages than that. Often, against my wishes.

Health goals first. Aesthetics goals second. And sports performance goals when we are feeling confident!

INITIAL CONSULTATION

In the initial consultation, we take your age, and we measure your height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure and heart rate.

We then measure your body composition with a BodyStat 1500 device which uses bio electrical impedance technology.

We repeat this every 2 weeks to monitor your fat loss/lean gain trends.

BUT STEPH, I HEARD THAT BIO ELECTRICAL IMPEDANCE IS NOT AS ACCURATE AS A DEXA SCAN.

That is true. But it is more than good enough for our bi-weekly body fat % tracking.
Here is what Wikipedia have to say:

“Many of the early research studies showed that BIA was quite variable and it was not regarded by many as providing an accurate measure of body composition. In recent years technological improvements have made BIA a bit more reliable and therefore more acceptable way of measuring body composition. Nevertheless, it is DEXA - and not BIA - that is regarded as a "gold standard" or reference method in body composition analysis.

BIA is considered reasonably accurate for measuring groups, or for tracking body composition in an individual over a period of time, but is not considered sufficiently precise for recording of single measurements of individuals.[8]

The use of multiple frequencies in specific BIA devices that utilize eight electrodes has been found to have a 94% correlation method with DEXA when measuring body fat percentage. The correlation with DEXA is as high as 99% when measuring Lean Mass, if strict guidelines are adhered to.”

If you would like to get a Dexa scan, book in with www.bodyscanuk.com.
Their report has data on everyone they have ever scanned.

If you’re over 50 years of age...

BLUE pic below: To be in the top 1% percentile of males, your body fat percentage would need to be around 13.5% or under.

ORANGE pic below: To be in the top 1% percentile of females, your body fat percentage would need to be around 18.2%.

Hey, I believe in you! And if anyone can do it… YOU can, right?
I will caution though… it will not be easy.
I certainly hope you’re not partial to a bit of cake.
